I Can Do It in Las Vegas

It’s not like it sounds.  Any one can “do it” in Las Vegas.   Lots of people do, and they suffer, but this is not the hedonistic playground activity you might be thinking about.

“I Can Do It” is a conference about creating your world as you would wish it to be.  The conference comes to Las Vegas every year.  Oh, I know what you’re thinking.  It’s for woo woos, and especially for our kind, where reasoning and logic is paramount, the word “manifesting” should be left to psychics and faith healers.  But here’s the irony, “manifesting” is based in reasoning and logic.  Let me give you an example:

On April 15th this year, my husband and I filed an extension on our tax return.  A while ago, it was August 15th, and like most procrastinators, we waited until then to complete the filing and pay the residual taxes.  I’d like to say that had I completed the filing, there would be no stress, but Kim insisted that he do it.  He feels it’s his job.  Guess what?  At 5 p.m. , we were looking for an extended hour post office.  Needless to say, I was frustrated.

One of my problems is that I look back on situations and instead of letting it go and trying to do the best with the current situation, I usually proclaim how to fix the problem, historically and in the future.  This may work in some circles, but not in a marriage when the incumbent has failed.  He doesn’t want to know what he should have done or how to do it in the future.  He already knows.

To add to this spiral, we paid quarterly estimated taxes, an added financial burden.  Needless to say, my husband was not in a good mood, nor I because I realized the whole situation could have been avoided.  Therefore, I wasn’t living in the NOW.

Things went from bad to worse.  Kim kept making little mistakes, and we had to start the process over a number of times.  In the meantime, the only P.O. that would postmark our return was in Tacoma, a good half hour away.  It closed at 8 p.m.  By the time, Kim dashed, it was 7:40 p.m. and I prayed that everyone was home, and the cops had decided to take a donut break.

He made it.  The spiral continued downward for a couple days thereafter.  It took two days to detox from the event.  It took two days to getting back to chasing the light.   When you’re on a quest like that, back sliding seems harder to overcome.

Case in point:

  1. Don’t procrastinate
  2. If you don’t have time to do something, delegate.
  3. If #s 1 and 2 don’t occur, relax….and think.
  4. Don’t get upset over the circumstances, because you created it.
  5. Change the circumstance by changing the way you look at it.

A couple of chocolates (the dark kind), five minutes breathing and relaxing, and kindly asking for assistance (from God, and your significant other) can change any outcome.  KNOWING that the desired outcome will occur will insure its “manifestation.”

We’re not all victims of the external environment.  We create our external environments, and if you don’t believe that, then make an assessment of the last time things started unraveling.  Were you incredulous?  Were you reactive?  For every negative reaction, did something else happen to mirror your attitude?

“I Can Do It” is about attitude, the law of attraction, and believing in yourself.  Yes, it’s motivational.  Yes, it’s inspirational.  Yes, it’s validating all those things you’ve been reading about.  You’ll leave walking two feet off the ground.  You’ll find yourself coming back to earth with the nuances of subliminal messages that can’t find their way out of your insomnia.

For the naysayers who believe that execution is the key, how many times have you executed a plan, but you’re still not where you want to be?  How much time did you spend envisioning what you wanted for your life?

It’s not about what you have been programmed to do.  It’s not about what others think you should do.  It’s not even about putting food on the table or buying gasoline.  Those things are important, but first:

You must know the essence of what you want in life.

You must believe that the power is within you to create it.

You must realize that fear and negativity are your nemeses.

You must stop regurgitating the past scripts of your life.

You must believe in yourself, the way you are right now.

You must stop all disbelief.

As an analyst, I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.

My friend, Steve Pavlina, and his wife Erin, are remarkable people.  They have a remarkable story.

In 2004 Steve went to the “I Can Do It” conference in Las Vegas.  At that time, he had a website that offered information to techno geeks about….well….technology.  He was very popular with his fellow technologists.  The website had a following….of a particular ilk.

After attending the conference in 2004, Steve had an epiphany, and it was this:  if he was to truly be successful with his career and his website, the content of his website must change.  It must be a website of service…to deliver information and inspiration to anyone that reads his material, not just technologists.

That began the evolution of one of the top 100 websites in the world.  Steve started writing about Self-Development for Smart People, and the rest is history.  He has published a book named the same, and it offers a unique approach to successful living.  Read his story for yourself on www.stevepavlina.com.

On the esoteric side, Erin Pavlina, a psychic and medium has her own following and her own website.  She scares me, because I know she’s the real thing, because she came by it unwittingly.

I’ve often been amazed at gifted people and why they’re gifted.  They didn’t ask for it.  They don’t know what to do with it, and more often than not, they’re not sure how to channel that gift into making a sustainable contribution into the world.  Erin has.  To this date, I don’t want to hang around her a lot because she will tell the truth about me to me, and I’m not sure I know how to negotiate that yet.

In other words, do I really want someone to tell me the truth about me????????  Hell, no.

Let me stay deluded for a while.  Let me feed that ego of mine those placebos, at least until I make a conscious choice to take a look…..a real hard look.

If you’re interested Erin Pavlina is the real deal.  Check it out at www.erinpavlina.com.  It may change your life, or, at least, the way you feel about it.

“I Can Do It” is something you tell yourself every day.  Why not expand it to greater heights?

There were keynotes, and breakout sessions, and interludes, but what it comes down to, is what resonates with you? What evokes emotion in you?

These speakers have done this so many times.  They make a living at it.  They keep doing it because every time they do, they reach that many more people.

Little ole cynical me gets moved every time.  Every time.

How can you not be moved when someone tells you that your own magnificence resides in your ethereal grasp?  It has nothing to do with religion, but it can enhance religion.

I’ve seen miracles.  I’ve seen things that can’t be explained.  I know about God, Source, Energy, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Light, Yahweh,….or whatever you believe.   Call it what you will, but all I know is that it’s amazing and wonderful.  Wonderful.  The most overused and trite word in the English language, but the best word I can muster for this.

Wonderful.  It is.  I am.  You are.

Here’s the thing:

If people come to Las Vegas for enlightenment or spiritual strength, why can’t the rest of us partake in places that aren’t so challenging?

Las Vegas?  Come on.

It’s true.  What I found there is the divine dichotomy.  Spirituality amidst a sea of hedonism.  I guess to have one thing, its opposite must exist, and no where in the world is it more exemplified than in this little valley.

I CAN DO IT.  YOU CAN DO IT.

Creating the life that you desire is already within your grasp.  Perhaps you need a little coaching, a little inspiration, a little fire under your behind.

For me, I had to start by taking a good look at my life:

My career:  I could define it.  I had business cards that told everyone what I do and what I was.  Was it a passion?  No.  It was time to find a way to make a living doing what I loved.

My relationships:  Was it everything I wanted?  No.  It was time to stop trying to control everyone’s life seminars.  My kids’ lives are not mine.  My husband’s life is not mine.  I’m a part of it, but it has to be what THEY want, not what I want for them.

My body, mind and spirit:  How I have neglected it.  It’s time to put me first….all else will follow.

Las Vegas is a place where people come to change.  They have to, because the spiritual vacuum that most people walk around with can’t survive here.

I know that the “I Can Do It” conference comes to Las Vegas because it’s lucrative, and this can provide the best forum for any type of conference.   It also comes here because it’s one place where mass audiences are reached.

Do yourself a favor.  This year take your family on a vacation of enlightenment.  You won’t be disappointed and it may very well take you where you’ve wanted to go for a very long time.

The next session is in Tampa, Florida in October, and You Can Do It, more than you can even imagine.
