When you hear the term “New Moon,” these days, your mind probably goes immediately to Stephanie Meyer’s quadrilogy, New Moon being the third in the series.  I’m not at all into vampires, lovesick and sensitive, or not. I’ve never been able to get into the books or the movies, sorry Edward and Bella.  Harry Potter, on the other hand, now that’s a story!  I also LOVE anything Tim Burton…oh, I could go on, but I digress, from a most important lunar cycle…New Moon.

Today’s spell is creating an energy for initiation.  This initiation can be for an enterprise, a heart’s desire, a to-do list or to begin a flow of creative thought.  What lies at the core of this initiation is gratitude and rooting the seeds of gratitude to sow in the months to come.  One of things we Wiccans believe is that whatever you send out to the Universe, it will come back three to a thousand fold…gratitude IS magical in the way it returns to you.  So go forth, my friends, and initiate your heart’s desire with the simple spell that follows…or not. You decide if it serves you.  Whatever the case, let this be a time of New Beginnings and Renewal.

Spell for Initiation, any time after sunset:

Gather:

1.       Wear something blue, preferably natural fibers such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, etc.

2.       Any color of candle, or candle representation

3.       A vase of your favorite flowers

4.       Fresh sprigs of Rosemary, Thyme, and Sage

5.       A piece of paper, a journal, or book of shadows, and a writing utensil, preferably a fountain pen, or pen and inkwell. (There’s something magical about hearing the pen strokes on the paper, as though words are flowing unfettered)

Ritual:

1.        Light the candle

2.       Stand before the flowers and herbs and inhale deeply three times

3.       Taking your writing utensil and paper or book, list the seeds of gratitude you’d like to plant:

a.       Family, friends, groups, organizations for which you are grateful

b.      Completion of tasks or short term projects, give thanks for your progress

c.       Think of the worst thing that’s ever happened to you and give thanks that you survived

d.      Pay it forward

e.      Start keeping a gratitude list

4.       Inhale deeply and smell the combination of the flowers and herbs as they mingle to begin the creative flow.

5.       Repeat these words:  “Thank you guardians of the Universe in joining with me to create the flow of energy toward the initiation of my heart’s desire.  I allow myself to be shown the path with ease, integrity, and purpose, and I release this to the elements with gratitude.”

6.       Forget about it.

7.       Dispose of the flowers and herbs after they die.

So be it, and so it isJ

Love and Light to all,

Kimi Witch
